What is Python ?

No, don’t think it to be the python snake from a jungle. Here we are talking about the python language, which is a programming language.

Python is an interpreted, high-level, and general-purpose programming language. Python was created in the early 1990s by Guido van Rossum, at Stichting Mathematisch Centrum (CWI) in the Netherlands. It was created as the successor of the language called ABC. Guido is the principal author of the language. But it also includes many contributions from others. It had some of the high-level features such as next-level built-in data structures. This was combined with dynamic typing and dynamic binding. It made it very attractive for Rapid Application Development, and also as the scripting or glue language to connect the existing components together. Since the time python was created various versions of the language have been updated. Python version 1.0 was released in Jan 1994. And the newest version released is Python 3.8.2, released on 24 Feb 2020. And between the time span of 1994 and 2020, almost 30 versions of the language have been introduced. But the two most popular ones are Python 2.7.x and Python 3.7.

Why Python?

Python is one of the simplest programming languages to date. If you are new to a programming language than it is always advised to learn a basic language such as C, but in the case of python it is not required. In comparison with the C language, it is easier to code in python. Simply it can be said that a 20 lines code in C language can be written in 3 to 4 lines. And moreover, it is compatible with major platforms and systems. Python is simple and so is easy to learn. It’s simple and easy syntax makes it’s readability easier and thus the cost of program maintenance is reduced. Python also supports some other features such as modules and packages. It increases the chances of program modularity and code reuse. Some other features of Python such as its interpreter and the extensive standard library are available in source or binary form. And it is available without any charge for all major platforms. And it can be freely distributed.

Due to all these advanced features, programmers often fall in love with the python language. And one of the reasons is that it’s easy to edit, test, and debug the programs. And the process is also very fast.

Where to use it?

Now, after viewing so many pros of the Python language, a question might arise in your mind that what are the uses or applications of the language. You can use Python for the development of desktop applications such as GUI, websites, and web applications as well. Python also allows you to focus on the core functionality of the application while it takes care of common programming tasks.

Top 10 applications of Python in the Real World are

  • Web development
  • Game development
  • Machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Data science and data visualization
  • Desktop GUI
  • Web scraping applications
  • Business applications
  • Audio and video applications
  • CAD applications
  • Embedded applications

World-class Software companies which use Python

So , here comes the list of some of the world-class companies which use the python language

  • Industrial light and magic
  • Google
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Spotify
  • Quora
  • Netflix
  • Dropbox
  • Reddit

Conclusion

So overall it can be said that python is in high demand due to its extraordinary properties. Most of the software companies nowadays are more compatible with the python language. One of the greatest reasons for that is it is easy to code in python. And it is also compatible with most of the applications. Beginners can easily learn python even if they don’t have prior knowledge of it. It reduces the time required to code for an application. And also it is easy to compile the code as the compilation time required is also less. And so, it can be said that in recent times python is the new emerging language in most of the fields.
